As highlighted to the Horse Committee members, we as Directors of the Society had to take immediate decisions to notify societies regarding classes we felt were losing  money, were not particularly well supported and to curtail those classes for 2012.

Each section of the Show i.e. Cattle, Horses, Trade, Cheese etc have been individually costed as never before.

Once again Nantwich Show is playing host to the Brown Swiss National Show, in 2012 a new class has been introduced to celebrate the many great traits of the Brown Swiss cow. The new 50 tonne cow class is open to all cows that have produced over 50 tonnes of milk in their lifetime.

The idea is to showcase these tremendous older cows who perhaps wouldn’t ordinarily still be frequenting the showring, but can have their forum and demonstrate the ability of the Brown Swiss breed to produce large volumes of milk and show longevity and endurance. It’s the first time a class of this type has been held for Brown Swiss cattle in the UK and looks set to be really interesting and we hope to gain a very respectable entry.

Over the past few years the number of Brown Swiss entries has grown and grown, with exhibitors from as far afield as Dumfries and Somerset. 2012 looks set to be bigger than ever with the eventual champion receiving the coveted Brown Swiss Bell, we look forward to welcoming our Brown Swiss competitors and hope that this new class will be an inspiration to all!

There will be four categories, Shearling Ram and upwards, Shearling Ewe and upwards, Ram Lamb, and Ewe Lamb. There will also be a Breed Champion and a Group of Three. (one male and two females).

The usual MAEDI VISNA ACCREDITED classes for Suffolk, Texel, Downland and Any Other Continental remain unaltered as does the NON ACCREDITED Butchers Lambs section.

This year’s awards are gearing up for another record breaking year with the backing again of celebrity chef’s Gino d’Acampo and James Martin and also joining them will be Jean Christophe Novelli.

Gino, James and John-Christophe will be cooking their favourite cheese dishes on the Wednesday when the show is open to the public. There are a limited amount of VIP tickets for each of the celebrities cooking demonstrations and we will give you details of how to book very shortly.
