Sheep

Nantwich Show has a very popular sheep section with competitive classes for Texel, Suffolk, Downland and Continental sheep. The classes are for Maedi Visna accredited flocks only. There are cash prizes to be won and each breed champion is presented with a wonderful Border Fine Arts Figurine. A pen of three butchers lamb class (for both accredited and non accredited sheep) was started 2 years ago and is growing in entries every year.

! NEW FOR 2012 ! We are introducing a class for Native British Breeds which will be a non accredited section. (Segregation from accredited sections will be strictly enforced).

All previous exhibitors will be sent schedules in due course but if you have not entered before they are readily available from the Show Secretaries.

At about 2.00pm in the afternoon a shearing demonstration takes place. This attracts large numbers so if you wish to see it being set up and watch an expert make shearing look easy (which it is not!) come early to get a good view. Also on display will be garments made from the wool from Jacob sheep.

Most sections are kindly sponsored by various local and nationwide companies.

If you would like to bring along some demonstration sheep or indeed would like to sponsor a class please contact our Sheep Chairman, Kevin Hammersley on 01270 624496 or by email at kevin.hammersley@hotmail.co.uk.

We welcome all visitors to the show to come along to the sheep section and see the different breeds that are on display, you will be amazed at the variety that the sheep world has developed over the years.

In addition to the sheep in the competitive section, we are pleased to say that we have the following breeds on show in the display section for 2012. There are Jacob, Hebridean, Shetland, Portland, Balwen, Dartmoor, Ryland, Manx Loughtan, Masham, Kerry Hill, Soay, Herdwick Blue Faced Leicester and Swaledale, with the probability of even more. The breeders are all in attendance and will be more than pleased to talk to you about their sheep.

We ask all parents to supervise their children in the sheep section and if anyone has been in contact with the animals we strongly recommend that you wash your hands under running water in one of the amenity blocks before consuming any food.
